Debate heats up on West Torrens Council high-rise plan for southwestern roads

Ken McGregor and Heather Kennett have written about the West Torrens Council's high-rise plan for southwestern roads, including Anzac Highway, on AdelaideNow.

MORE than 230 residents and businesses have had their say about a plan to allow buildings up to eight-storeys along southwestern arterial roads.

Many responding to the plans believed the public transport system could not cope if areas surrounding Marion and Henley Beach Rd roads, and Anzac Hwy, were rezoned to allow hundreds of new residents in high-rise apartment buildings.

Under the changes, the Port Rd frontage and city end of Anzac Hwy would have apartments up to eight storeys high, and Henley Beach Rd would have buildings between four and six storeys.

Does anyone else find it amusing to see pelicans and swans frolicking in the middle of Port Road in the artist's impression? Where are all the cars?
