Newsletter - 15 Feb 2013

Welcome to the first email newsletter of the St Peters Residents' Association (SPRA). This newsletter discusses the Residential Development Planning Amendment, the Rally at 2pm on Monday 18th and the new website. SPRA believes that new development should complement the valued character of existing residential areas and be of a high standard. It is committed to helping residents maintain or improve the character and amenity of their residential areas.

News Flash: River St / Player Ave Residents' Meeting
Councillors John Frogley and Isaac Pasalidis from the St Peters Ward have kindly agreed to meet with residents predominately from River St, Player Ave and Player Court at 6pm tonight (Friday 15th February). The purpose is for residents to share with the councillors what is great about living there and how the Development Plan Amendments will impact. If you live in the around the Billabong, hopefully you have already received an invite. Please drop in and meet your councillors.

A report on the meeting will appear on the website next week. Similar meetings are being planned around the Council. If you want to be involved, please contact Evonne Moore.

Residential Development Planning Amendment (DPA)
Hopefully, despite the Norwood, Payneham and St Peters council's lack of effort, you are now aware that significant changes are proposed to Residential Zonings within the council areas. SPRA have made a submission which covers many of the changes in detail. You can read a summary of the submission and the full submission in the SPRA submission to Residential DPA article.

The consultation period has been extended to 1st March. This is a result of the huge community outcry about lack of adequate public consultation and concern about multi-storey flats being imposed on residential streets. SPRA encourages you to submit your concerns with the changes and how it impacts on your home.

Information Sessions
To provide the community with further details of the DPA, three information sessions will be held as follows:

  • Wednesday, 20 February 2013 at 2pm and 7pm
St Peters Banquet Hall, 101 Payneham Road, St Peters
  • Thursday, 21 February 2013 at 7pm
Payneham Library Complex, 2 Turner Street, Felixstow

Public Meeting
SPRA encourage everyone to attend the public meeting on Tuesday 5 March 2013, at 7pm, to be held in the Don Pyatt Hall, Norwood Town Hall. The public meeting provides an opportunity to voice your concerns to the council in a public forum. It is important that as many people as possible attend to send a strong message to the council.

Rally - 2pm Monday 18th at Parliament House
The Burnside Residents Group have organised a rally on the footsteps of Parliament House this coming Monday 18th February at 2pm. SPRA encourages as many people to attend as possible to attend the rally to show their opposition to the development changes that are being forced upon local councils. You can read about this in more detail in the 2pm Mon 18-Feb: Rally at Parliament House article.
