On the afternoon of Remembrance Day over 200 people, mostly relatives, gathered at the St Peters Heroes Memorial in St Peters Street for the unveiling by the Governor of South Australia Her Excellency Frances Adamson AC of a new bronze plaque.

The plaque records the names of 89 men from the former Town of St Peters who died as a result of their service in the Second World War and was funded by a grant to SPRA from the SA Government’s Anzac Day Commemoration Fund.

The unveiling ceremony at the Memorial was organised by the NPSP Council Events Team. As well as speeches by Her Excellency and Mayor Robert Bria, SPRA President David Cree spoke about the men who are now named on the memorial and told the story of Sub-Lieutenant Reid Gavin Park. Reid Park lived in Adelaide Street Maylands , attended Prince Alfred College and was killed aboard his motor torpedo boat in the English Channel. Copies of the speeches by the Governor, Mayor Bria and David Cree are available online.

The reading of the names of those on the memorial by the School Captains of Prince Alfred College and St Peters College was particularly poignant, as many of those who died were their age, or not much older.

A major part of the project was to locate and to invite as many descendants and relatives as possible, and some of those in attendance had travelled from all eastern states and the ACT.
