Extension of the existing St Peters Historic Area Overlay

In 1995/6 the Government was allowing Councils to submit proposals for changes to their Development Plans to create Historic (Conservation) Zones, where appropriate, and to nominate items of Local Heritage and Contributory Heritage significance. There was a general acceptance by Councillors for Historic (Conservation) Zones in 1st to 6th Avenues, but lesser support for 7th and 8th, partly because of some inconsistency with newer dwellings between the older ones.

The addition of 7th and 8th Avenues to the Heritage Area Overlay as proposed by this motion will help to ensure that what is built will complement the historic homes and protect the remaining historic dwellings worthy of being protected.

SPRA can report that Cr Moorhouse's motion was unanimously supported by the councillors

Heritage Plaques Program - Council Inaction

In 2022 Council endorsed the Built Heritage Strategy 2022-2027.

The Strategy includes the installation of Heritage Plaques on Local Heritage Places in the Council area. (Page 16 Item 1.2.2).

As far as this Association is aware no Heritage Plaques have been installed on any Local Heritage Place since the adoption of the policy 3 years ago. That means a deficit of at least 18 plaques.

SPRA would appreciate your suggestions of buildings that are deserving of a plaque.
