While there is considerable potential for the redevelopment of the site to provide medium density dwellings, as allowed under the provisions of the Planning & Design Code and an approved site Concept Plan, the Association had serious concerns with what the Aspen Group was proposing.

The Council Assessment Panel considered the application at a meeting in January where SPRA, and a number of local residents, made further verbal submissions to the Panel.

None of the Panel members supported the development and the application was refused Planning Consent.

The SPRA has concerns this application contravenes multiple provisions of the P&D Code and the Concept Plan for the site and should be refused.

Concerns include:

1. high density
2. Lack of parking - 1 per five apartments
3. Safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists

SPRA are pleased that all panel members rejected the plan.

While conservative in her values, it was her pioneering role in the Corporation of the Town of St Peters Council, representing the Hackney Ward until 1935, that saw her challenging the expectations that confronted women during this period.

Development Application - Closes 20 June 2025

The proposed redevelopment of the Adelaide Caravan Park, located in Hackney is now open for public comment. Submissions close on 20th June 2025.

The development is described as Torrens Title Land Division creating 47, construction of a six-storey mixed-use building and associated public roads.

As part of this the partial demolition of 2 Local Heritage Places and a change of use to detached dwellings is planned.

Traffic management in our suburbs is of significant concern to the St Peters Residents Association (SPRA). The issues of poor driver behaviour, excessive speed, rat running and parking are frequently raised to the committee.

Topics that have been raised recently include:

• The Avenues in St Peters, Joslin & Royston Park, particularly those streets closer to Payneham Road.
• Richmond St, Hackney where the narrow footpath and excessive speed create a risk to pedestrians and cyclists.
• Students parking around St Peters College
• Cyclists crossing Stephens Terrace at Ninth Avenue

On Sunday 31st May from 12pm - 2pm, a picnic will be held in Rymill Park in protest over the government's plans to build a 6 lan dual carriage way diagonally through Rymill Park.

It will be a bring-your-own picnic, but it is planned that there will be a sausage sizzle, live music and some key speeches from some high profile people such as Lord Mayor Martin Haese and Senator Nick Xenophon. The event is intended as a picnic / protest event that should be an enjoyable, fun-filled community event in it's own right.
